Camp Lonehollow
Lonehollow was founded in 2006 by the current camp director, Meg Clark, as a premier co-ed adventure camp. During Lonehollow’s inaugural summer, there were less than fifty campers and about sixteen activities. The main building was titled the “Lake Lodge.” This building not only contained campers, but it also was the location of the dining hall. Camp crews are an integral part of Camp Lonehollow, and during the first summer there were only two crews, the Trackers and the Explorers. However, within the first six years of Lonehollow’s existence, multiple things were added such as the silos, treehouses, mesa, and alpine cabins. Also, a bigger dining hall was built and a third crew called the Mountaineers was added. During summer, 2015, there were over one thousand campers and more than sixty activities, with more under construction. The mission adopted by Camp Lonehollow is, “Lonehollow provides a remarkable experience to discover, empower, and inspire your greatest self.” The Lonehollow philosophy is based on a full-circle principle, where campers start with the basics, fundamentals, and beginnings of a process then learn, demonstrate, and complete the entire process. For example, campers who take the fishing class will learn how to bait the hook, catch a fish, scale, fillet, and marinade the fish, before finally cooking the fish. However, this philosophy extends past just class instruction. For example, the youngest campers, who are called Pathfinders, eventually move to the next age-group of campers, who are called Scouts, then to the oldest group of campers, who are called Adventurers or Lead Climbers, then joining work crew, before being a counselor in training, and finally being a Lonehollow guide and counselor. The values of Lonehollow are Growth, Empower, Adventure, and Resilience.
